Anita Porco of Dallas became only the second woman Chair of the national board of directors of the UCP, formerly known as the United Cerebral Palsy Association, in its 50-year history. Her term ended in September of 2004.

UPC, based in Washington, D.C., has 100 affiliates nationwide that provide programs and services for people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

Ms. Porco previously served as president of UCP of Metropolitan Dallas (a United Way affiliate), Executive Women of Dallas and the D-FW chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners.

She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Dallas Summer Musicals and the Dallas-Fort Worth Health Industry Council and serves on the Women's Business Enterprise National Council Forum and the Irving Board of Health.

She is a graduate of Leadership Dallas and also recently received the "She Knows Where She is Going" Award from Girls Inc. In addition, Ms. Porco has served on the boards or advisory councils of the Dallas Women's Foundation, Inwood National Bank, Dallas District of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Save the Children and Women Mean Business.

In 1991, she was named SBA Dallas District Small Business Advocate of the Year, and she has also received the Women in Excellence Award sponsored by Woman's Enterprise and the YWCA Women's Resource Center.

She has been a strong advocate for women in business and people with disabilities and continues to work on their behalf
